Meet Sofia
The unintended expat blogger behind NextChapter Family

Hi there, I'm Sofia
Project manager. Parent. An expat based in Rome, Italy.
A few years ago I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term contract gradually evolved into a new chapter of life abroad.
How It Began
Moving to Italy wasn’t in the grand plan. Like many international moves, it started as a job opportunity and grew into something far bigger.
The initial months were demanding — new systems, new routines, new expectations. Everyday tasks seemed more complex than expected.
The Adjustment Phase
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of learning by doing. But gradually, routines settled in. We found places that suited us, met other families, and began crafting something that felt stable.
Why I Created NextChapter Family
Most online information was either corporate relocation guidance or surface-level tourism content. What was missing was an honest, everyday family perspective.
This site aims to fill that gap — practical guidance grounded in real life in Italy.
What This Site Is (And Isn't)
This site is:
- A practical perspective gained from living in Italy
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated whenever something truly changes
This site isn't:
- Not a tourism authority resource
- A platform for sponsored reviews
- Just another generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our stay in Italy continues, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll keep documenting what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Rome or anywhere in Italy, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Best regards,
Sofia
